Resolutions...or Determinations?

I am so glad I sat down with my doctor and had a long talk with her about my knee pain, concerns about weight, high blood pressure, you name it. She immediately sent me for knee x-rays (that same day!) and then to a specialist, who put me into PT and back into the YMCA warm water pool.

Yes, I already feel like a new person! The PT girl is from our church, so I felt right at home. And the exercises are already getting both knees working with much less pain. Prescriptions also helped. Instead of waking in the morning bemoaning this pain or that problem, I'm waking with brand new enthusiasm.

Walking into the Y to sign up as a member again (they're not charging the mega membership fee for most of this month) was delightful; they remembered me, hugged me, were SO glad to see me there again. No wonder I like small towns! In a big city, you might just be a face in the crowd, one of those January resolution people. Not here in Rocky Mount; they're the friendliest bunch ever.

Today, I stopped in at the Franklin County Library. With the two long holiday weeks, I'd actually run out of reading material (you'd laugh at all my full bookcases) but again, it was a case of friends happy to see me out and about.

Well, I hope I haven't already blogged about all this, but I am a very happy camper.

Your doctor actually talked to you!? Must be nice.

I went to mine today with a list of my problems. She would only deal with oneā€”the ear ache. The other problems will require other appointments. Sheesh!

Becky, that's a billing issue with Medicare. Every health problem needs to be defined by the patient ahead of time (although, we're seeing the doctor because we don't know what the definition is, right?).
When I called for the appt, I told them I needed to talk to her about (1), (2), (3) and so on. She was terrific and sought a solution to each problem. Knees, weight, BP, arthritis pain in various areas and other concerns. Her name is Dr. Dulaney at RM Carilion Associates and I've heard only good comments about her. She even calls me at home to discuss the next steps, referrals to specialists, etc.

I wish my mom would take such good care of herself like you're doing Marion. My mom really needs physical therapy as well. And I'm sure a warm water pool would be great for her!

What is the mega membership fee? Kurt goes to that gym and they're asking for more dough now for six more months.

Wow. Like Becky, I'm amazed that you have a doctor that talks to you...and listens. Heck, I'm amazed that you get to see a DOCTOR. On the rare occasions that I visit a medical office, I'm always given either a Nurse Practitioner or a PA. You are very fortunate.

Sounds like your New Year is getting off to a splendid start. Happy New Year to you, Marion!

Marion, I'm actually glad I locked my keys in my car because standing in Kroger's gave me a chance to talk to you! But I did not know about the knees. Glad you have a good doctor.

Believe me, it took me quite some time to find my current doctor. Her husband is a local minister I've learned. And I am doing really well in all departments. Even one of the specialists she referred me to, a urological gyn in Roanoke concerning UTIs, was pleased that my primary care doc is taking everything on. They talk or e-mail each other. Hooray for concerned women as doctors who listen and act.

Debi: I'm not sure what the joining fee at the Y is now (it was $75 back in the day) but until the 15th of this month, it is $0. The monthly fee has gone up, too. If they deduct it from your checking account, it is $40 a month for one person. (It used to be $50 a month for a family.)

Thanks Marion. I wish Kurt would just go outside and ride his darn horse and then he wouldn't NEED the gym. We've got to feed the horse whether we ride him or not! Might as well ride!
